The Hon. Deb Frecklington, Attorney-General and Minister for Justice and Minister for Integrity (Qld), Media Release, 15 July 2025

The Crisafulli Government has rejected Fox Coal’s application to develop a proposed coal mine in the Bundaberg region.

The Attorney-General found the application was not in the public interest after a full assessment.

During the assessment process, many significant community concerns were raised about the potential impacts of a future coal mine on the region’s agricultural industry, water resources, environmental values, liveability, and tourism industry.

In making her decision to reject the application, the Attorney-General fully considered a Public Interest Evaluation Report thoroughly prepared by the Department of Natural Resources and Mines, Manufacturing and Regional and Rural Development.
