Steam whistles echo through the rolling hills of Victoria’s Goldfields, heralding a journey back in time. This Easter, the Victorian Goldfields Railway is offering a special treat—additional heritage train rides between Castlemaine and Maldon, along with Easter Monday shuttles to Muckleford, bringing with them a wave of excitement.
Victorian Goldfields Railway CEO Will Maylor expressed his enthusiasm for the Easter services, stating, “This is more than just a train ride, it’s a celebration of history, community, and the enduring charm of heritage rail. We’re thrilled to see Maldon bustling with visitors, supporting local businesses and keeping our railway’s legacy alive.”
“We’ve got something for everyone this Easter”, said Mr Maylor. “In addition to our normal services, we’ve got the luxurious and indulgent Wine and Cheese Soiree, run in conjunction with Porcupine Village, as well as the Victorian Colonial Express, which allows passengers to travel on the oldest carriages in Australia. This year we’re also running a trip to Maldon in time for visitors to enjoy the Easter Parade, plus some quick shuttle trips to Muckleford.”
Beyond nostalgia, these trains deliver a tangible boost to Maldon’s economy. Local businesses—from cafes to shops—are set to benefit from the influx of visitors. The railway acts as a vital artery, connecting tourists to Maldon’s rich heritage and vibrant community.
As the trains roll into Maldon and Muckleford, they carry more than passengers, they bring life, energy, and prosperity to a town that thrives on its past while embracing its future.
