Local hope looks to go back to back

Recent stories

A big weekend is looming for first-time author, Dixie Coutts, whose book on the history of the Towong Turf Club will be launched on the eve of this year’s Cup meeting.

She is also a part owner of 2024 winner Euphemia who is aiming for a repeat sucess on Saturday to join a select group to have won multiple cups.

Euphemia’s task hasn’t been helped with the top weight of 62kgs but the impost is likely to be offset by the engagement of a claiming apprentice jockey.

The other plus is that the eight-year-old mare is in career best form having won her last start at Moonee Valley.

Dixie’s book Towong Turf Club Tales will be launched at the racecourse on Friday night at 6pm.

The turf club is expecting a record crowd and full fields for Saturday after receiving 282 nominations for the seven-race card.

There will be the usual ‘Fashions on the Field’ with more than $1000 in prizemoney, live music by ‘Tedrocks’ and free shuttle buses from around the district to get you to and from the track safely.

The seven-event program has an earlier than usual start with the first race starting at 12.59pm and the final event at 4.40pm. Final acceptors will be declared later today.

With fine weather forecast over the next few days, the track is expected to be rated as a Good 4.

General admission tickets are available online for $25 at towong.tickets. countryracing.com.au/ or at the gate ($30 cash only).
