Maldon Bakery was selected winner of a 2024 Golden Plate Award in the Unlicensed Café or Bakery section at a gala dinner on Monday 2 December. Maldon Bakery always rises to the occasion with its magnificent baked goods, served with a smile in a lovely environment: everyone in the local area knows it! So it is fantastic to see Rebecca Barnett and her team being recognised for their hard word, attention to detail and downright deliciousness.
Rebecca said, “This is recognition from industry leaders that we’re making a positive contribution to food culture in the region. We’re evolving as a bakery because we’ve got a fantastic team and we’re all striving towards making Maldon Bakery an iconic destination bakery. We’ve loved getting to know the locals and being supported by the community.”
The Golden Plate Awards is a program to honour eateries in regional Victoria; the awards subject nominees to a rigorous round of judging by hospitality professionals.
One of the judges said, “In most small towns, the pub is the drawcard for the locals. In Maldon, the bakery has become the heart of the town. Walk in the door, and there is always a queue of people lining up for their pies, cakes or beautiful sourdough bread.”
Another added, “All the locals love coming to the bakery because the service is always charming and the food is always mouth-wateringly delicious, and tourists to the town flock here as well. There is a cornucopia of delicious produce to be found in this rustic heritage delight.”
Other winners in our region included Campbell Creek’s Five Flags Hotel, for Best Pub Dining and Miss M’s Lounge Kyneton for Best Cocktail Bar or Cellar Door.
Congratulations Maldon Bakery for your deserving win!
