Late in the second quarter in Saturday’s clash between undefeated Cudgewa and winless Corryong, the Demons had limited the damage to a five goal deficit in a spirited showing but the Blues juggernaut got rolling after half time to show why they are deserved flag favourites.
Cudgewa captain Mitch Pynappels fired his troops with a fearless attack on both ball and man as the Blues midfield began to pick holes in the Dees stretched defence to land the Sherrin in the hands of Adam Prior, Ben Hall and Drew Cameron who combined for 12 goals in the absence of leading sharpshooter Guy Telford.
Craig Lieschke, Grady Nigsch and Daryl Webb were also prominent for Cudgewa while Corryong was best served by Frank Von Marburg, Patrick Riley and Nathan Lattanzio on a tough day.
Bullioh also had a commanding win against Tumbarumba in the other match, powering away in the second half for a 97-point victory.
In a versatile display, the Dogs boasted nine goalkickers led by Ash Murray with five while their defence restricted the opposition to five goals, three of which came in the last quarter when the contest was well and truly over.
