Demons feel the heat

Recent stories

Cudgewa inflicted maximum damage on Corryong in a 178-point rout on Saturday to sit alone on top of the ladder with a very healthy percentage.

The Blues flew the blocks with a nine-goal first term, cruised through the second quarter and then piled on another nine goals in each of the last two quarters for a huge win.

Craig Lieschke, Jim Whiteley, Mitchell Pynappels and Jake Hill dominated in field play and provided the Blues’ forwards with a plethora of scoring opportunities, which Guy Telford took full advantage of to kick 11 goals in a starring role.

His sidekicks in Dayne Carey and Adam Prior played best supporting actor parts with seven and five goals respectively to put the Dees backs to the sword.

Corryong was powerless to stem the onslaught and looks in for a tough season, as evidenced by the collective tally of Cudgewa’s seniors and reserves sides which booted 65.30 (420 points) to Corryong’s 4.2 (26).

Bullioh continued its good form with a trouble-free 87-point victory over Tumbarumba in the other match.

The Roos struggled to hit the scoreboard without leading goalkicker Dan Hitchens whereas the Dogs had several avenues to goal led by coach Clint Brunnemeyer who booted six majors and he was well supported by Kelvin Wallace, Jesse Wellington and Josh Walters who chimed in with three apiece.

Fynn Debono and Rhys Preston were prominent for the Roos and Ethan Thomsen contributed four of his team’s six goals but the Dogs had too much firepower as they pulled away in the second half.

In A grade netball, Cudgewa remains unbeaten on top of the ldder following a 16-goal win over Tumbarumba, Corryong sits second on two wins after getting past Bullioh with a narrow four-goal victory over Bullioh.
