Narrandera Rodeo draws crowds from across Australia

Recent stories

The 67th Narrandera Rodeo on Saturday attracted competitors and visitors from all over Australia.

President of the Narrandera Rodeo Committee Ron Absolom said organisers were happy with the success of the night.

“As far as the crowd and the night, we were really happy with everything about the event and hopefully the crowd was happy too and will come back next year,” he said.

“There were a lot of town people and people from all around who came last year and couldn’t believe how good it was… we’re still getting congratulated for it today.”

The event began early at 9am with the Slack events, but the normal rodeo began at 6.30pm in the cooler part of the day.

Although the crowd was down a little from last year’s huge event, the rodeo still reigned in around 2,500 to 3,000 people.

There were around 190 contestants who comprised a mix of local talent as well as riders from Victoria, South Australia and as far as Queensland.

A wide range of activities was available for competitors to participate in, including all the usual favourites of Bull Rides, Saddle Bronc Rides, Bareback Bronc Ride, Steer Wrestling, Calf Roping, Team Roping, Barrel Racing, and Breakaway Roping.

The event was well-supported by the community, with major sponsors including JBS Australia Feed Lot, Nutrien AG Solutions, Narrandera Signs, Alastair Refrigeration and Air Conditioning, Manildra Group Gem of the West, Hutchins Bros Engineering, Narrandera Ex Servicemen’s Club, Bendigo Bank and Eurell’s of Leeton and Narrandera.

Results for each of the categories at the event will be released very soon on the official Australian Professional Rodeo Association (APRA) website.

The Rodeo Club will also be announcing the official amount they raised at the event, with community groups and charities to benefit from the funds this year alongside CanAssist.
