Pilots gather for laidback event

The Corryong Cup Hang Gliding Competition 2024 concuded on the weekend with 65 pilots attending from all over Australia and Norway, Germany, Austria and Ireland.

The aim of the Corryong event is to foster learning in a relaxed environment as well as to improve competition flying skills while having fun.

Tracey Meyer, president of HG Comps which organises the competition, thanked the generosity and understanding of local land owners including the winner of the land owner prize Edward from Tintaldra.

“Thanks to the Bendigo Bank (Community Bank Mt Beauty & District & Corryong Business Service Centre) for their generous funding of $7,650.54,” she added, “which allowed us to purchase new banners to indicate wind strength and direction in goal, bomb-out and on launch, which will be used for many years to come.

“These funds were also used to purchase Bendigo Bank branded event T-shirts for all attendees.

“A mid-week fund raising event was run at the Tintaldra Hotel raising a record amount of $6700 for the Corryong Emergency Services.”

The final day of competition was on Saturday followed by a presentation dinner at the Colac Colac Caravan Park.

“Thanks to Paul and Melissa and the Corryong Rotary Club for hosting the event,” Tracey added.

“We are always on the lookout for ways we can work in with the community and welcome any suggestions and comments to help improve the experience for everyone involved.”
