The weather may have been crappy but the people still flocked to Greenmount on Saturday for the inaugural Billy Cart Challenge, which attracted 65 entries.
There were plenty of spills and thrills as drivers manoeuvred their way down Ramsay Street.
It was always planned that the Challenge would be an annual event, but Saturday’s success cemented that.
“It will go ahead next year – the last weekend in November,” organiser and local publican Brendon Quirey said.
“We are very, very happy with the success of it.” He said the organisers will have a debrief in January and start planning for 2024 immediately.
“It’ll be much bigger and better next year,” Brendon said.
“We can already see ways to handle double the crowd.” This year’s sponsors are all on board again for next year and six new sponsors have already agreed to be part of it.
“Myself and Fiona want to express our appreciation to the local community,” Brendon said “We were overwhelmed with the support we received from the volunteers and sponsors on the day.
“I’ve lived in a lot of communities and I’ve never seen such community spirit as there is here at Greenmount.”
