King Neptune exhibition in Downstairs Gallery revamped area

Recent stories

The King Neptune exhibition is on in the Downstairs Gallery in a recently revamped area, which was originally part of the gallery, until Sunday, October 1.

Downstairs Gallery chair Trish Milburn said before the exhibition closed the king of the sea people’s choice award would be announced by Pearce MHR Tracey Roberts.

She said people who voted in the people’s choice award were eligible to win prizes.

At the exhibition launch Pam Annesley was named the overall winner, the Atlantis legend winner was Catherine Shave while Gaye Southwell and Wendy Stackhouse were highly recommended in the star of the sea.

September 24 artist in residence Mark Ewing of Quinns Rocks has been a member of the Downstairs Gallery for more than four years.

Ewing said the gallery has been there for more than 20 years and they were planning something special for the gallery’s 21st anniversary in March.

“At the gallery now visitors can see artists local to the Wanneroo area,’’ he said.

“Each one has a different style and technique – some do oil paintings some do acrylic, some do jewellery, some do macramé so there’s something for everybody here (and) different styles from abstract to traditional landscape portraits.’’

He said the revamped area they were calling Three Doors Down Art Studio would continue to be open to the public.

“That’s going to be a working studio where people can come in and see the artists at work painting.

“You can come in smell the paint, watch the artist painting, chat to the artist about the process.’’

The Downstairs Gallery is to show off the finished pieces while the other one is for work in progress from the sketch to the finished article.

The King Neptune exhibition closes on October 1.

“On Monday, October 2 we’ll be coming in with our easels and paints and our coffee and we’ll just be having some fun.’’

Milburn said at the gallery in the Two Rocks Shopping Centre visitors could see original art, jewellery, cards, crafts including macrame, portraits, art prints, accessories, pet portraits and woodwork.

The gallery in the Two Rocks Shopping Centre is open from 10am to 3pm six days a week (it is closed on Tuesdays).
