Community responds to urgent need

Recent stories

Following a five-month recruitment campaign and a recent community meeting, the Corryong SES Unit has received 16 membership applications.

At the community meeting, SES officers spoke about the flowon effect for the Upper Murray community if the Corryong unit shut down and the impact that would have including the increased risk of loss of life.

The SES is now completing the ‘on-boarding’ and induction stages before the volunteers move onto the training phase.

“I’m super proud of the community and I am grateful they have welcomed me and engaged with me on a really tough topic over the past five months during this recruitment drive,” said Tarryn Firman, SES Community Resilience Co-ordinator, Eastern Region.

SES wants to recruit more members who might never have thought they could be an emergency responder.

Unit members also prepare the community for adverse weather events, manage radio traffic, complete job reports, fundraise, and support the wider region during emergencies.
