Mount Alexander Shire Council is partnering with Central Goldfields Shire Council and community group Castlemaine-Maryborough Rail Trail Inc. to determine the feasibility of a shared rail trail between Castlemaine and Maryborough.
The proposed trail is 55km long and passes through the communities of Campbells Creek, Guildford, Newstead, Moolort and Carisbrook.
A survey is now open to the community, which aims to evaluate the business case for the trail, and to provide recommendations about the trail alignment, design and management.
It will also gather information about community attitudes and expectations.
The survey is open until Friday 23 June and can be accessed at www.surveymonkey.com/r/cmrailtrail.
