Port Pirie Regional Art Gallery is thrilled to present the Port Pire Branch of the Embroiderers’ Guild of South Australia Inc. in The Gentle Arts.

This exhibition will open with a special Launch Event on Friday 26 May from 5.30pm at the Port Pirie Regional Art Gallery, 3 Mary Elie Street, Port Pirie.

The Gentle Arts is an embroidery exhibition that celebrates the historical significance, technical mastery and cultural narratives embedded within embroidery. The exhibition showcases a diverse range of styles, techniques, and cultural contexts, highlighting the continuity and evolution of embroidery as both a functional craft and a fine art.

By presenting traditional and contemporary works, the exhibition explores the versatility and innovation within the art form. The display aims to foster appreciation, engagement and deeper understanding among visitors. Overall, the exhibition aims to showcase embroidery as a vibrant and relevant medium that combines tradition with contemporary approaches.

In addition, the exhibition explores the therapeutic qualities of embroidery and its impact on wellbeing. Through themes such as mindful stitching, narrative embroidery, embodied healing, and community and connection, the exhibition also showcases the calming, expressive, and healing aspects of the craft.
