Blue Lagoon to back up in Karrakatta Plate

Recent stories

Gingin trainer Sue Olive says she has asked jockey Joseph Azzopardi to ride Blue Lagoon in the Group 2 Amelia Park-Karrakatta Plate (1200m) at Ascot on Saturday, April 15.

Olive is backing up Blue Lagoon after he finished second in the Mrs Mac’s Plate (1000m) on April 8.

In the Mrs Mac’s Plate from barrier four the winner Shell Bell got off to a fast start while Blue Lagoon from barrier nine was slow away.

“His start was very ordinary, he does get a bit fractious in the barriers which cost him the jump,’’ Olive said.

In the second half of the race Blue Lagoon was held up but once apprentice jockey Taj Dyson got him in some clear space he put in a strong finish without being able to catch Shell Bell.

Olive said she believed if he’d been closer to the winner it would have been a bit different outcome.

“But once you’re held up in fast races like that it leaves little time to catch up.

“We are going to back him up on Saturday, do little with him this week and fingers crossed.

“I have asked Joey Azzopardi to ride him.’’

Olive also has Catch The Red Eye entered in the Karrakatta Plate.

Other entries include Shell Bell, the Sean and Jake Casey-trained Snow Prince, Live To Tell, Super Smink and Alotofbanter.
