Lockhart Heritage Truck Show not just about trucks

Recent stories

There’s something big happening at this weekend’s Lockhart Heritage Truck Show, and it’s not just the trucks.

This year, for the first time, it’s not all about heavy vehicles. There’s something new in the pavilion.

Truck Show committee member, Joy Schultz, said she had done some research into whether more women would attend if there was something of interest for them. She got a positive yes, and this year, they are covering fashion, cooking, floral art, market stalls, Devonshire teas by the CWA, food and drinks, and musical entertainment.

Joy said Fashion Through The Years, would feature a model wearing a gown belonging to a member whose great, great, great grandmother wore it in the 1800s.

“There are even the corsets, and a brooch,” Joy said.
Lyn Jacobsen OAM will do cooking demonstrations and Judy Knoble will show how to create floral art.

The Railway Hotel will cater with a special Indian Butter Chicken dish and The Spotted Cloth, plus Nutrimetics displays will be a couple of the market stalls for a bit of shopping therapy.

And there will be trucks. Feature vehicles this year are Kenworth and Mercedes and most of the anticipated 100 vehicles will start rolling into the Lockhart Showgrounds early Saturday morning. A sight in itself.

Truck Show organiser, Trevor Slater, said sales reps would judge the trucks on various categories and prizes would be awarded.

There would also be displays of Vintage and Veteran cars and motorbikes from the Tarcutta Vintage Car Club and maybe Wagga.

“This is a big event for Lockhart,” Trevor said.

“It is one of the biggest money intakes for the town for the year.”

He never knows how many trucks will arrive because there is no pre-booking.

There are no floods to close roads this year but the price of diesel might stop some from making it to the little town.

“We’re hoping it will be the best yet though,” he said.
