Bridge built back better

Recent stories

An 83 year old bridge has been replaced by a new concrete bridge that will last 100 years. The $2.6 million Cedar Point Bridge on Edenville Rd, near Kyogle was officially opened on Monday, October 31.

Minister for Regional Transport and Roads Sam Farraway said the old bridge had been operating under a 20-tonne load limit for the past two decades.

“Further efficiencies will be realised for local freight including diverting timber, dairy and agricultural products away from the Omagh Road route, saving truck drivers a 10-kilometre detour,” Mr Farraway said.

The building of the Cedar Bridge supported 20 local jobs during the three months of construction including five fulltime positions.

The new bridge is a single span concrete structure, founded on steel driven piles with greater flood immunity than the previous bridge.

The project received $2.1 million through the NSW Government’s Fixing Country Roads program and $300,000 from Kyogle Council and a $212,000 in-kind contribution in materials supplied by Grahams Quarry.
