The designs of the new $260 million state-of-the-art Eurobodalla Regional Hospital have been unveiled, showcasing an overall increase in bed capacity and significantly expanded health service.

Minister for Health Brad Hazzard said the new hospital will provide more services than are currently available at the Moruya and Batemans Bay hospitals combined.

“We’re at an exciting stage with plans for the $260 million Eurobodalla Regional Hospital revealing a sustainable, contemporary facility that will support the needs of the entire Eurobodalla Shire, from Narooma to Batemans Bay, as well as the many holidaymakers who visit each year,” Mr Hazzard said.

“The local community has been instrumental in the design of the hospital and I urge everyone to come along to the upcoming consultation sessions and be involved in this game-changing project.”

Minister for Regional Health Bronnie Taylor said the NSW Government is delivering a modern, purpose-built health facility designed to grow with the community.

“The community has been involved every step of the way, with health professionals, staff, and locals, including Aboriginal community representatives, influencing key elements of the hospital from the master plan through to the concept design,” Mrs Taylor said.

“Excitingly, for the first time, the Eurobodalla community will have its own Intensive Care Unit with an eight-bed unit being built as part of the new hospital. I know that this is something that has been advocated strongly for by the community and I thank them for their efforts.

“Not only will this new hospital improve health outcomes, experiences and services for communities from Narooma to Batemans Bay, it will also drive employment and skills development across the region throughout construction.”

The Eurobodalla Regional Hospital will be built to accommodate a Level 4 health facility and include:

• Emergency Department
• Eight-bed Intensive Care Unit
• Increased capacity for chemotherapy and increased access to renal dialysis
• Surgical and operating theatres and a day stay surgical unit
• Expanded medical imaging department, including MRI service
• Ambulatory care for community and outpatient services
• Dedicated inpatient paediatric beds, paediatric short stay unit and special care nursery
• Dedicated inpatient palliative care beds
• Mental health beds for short term admission
• Dedicated education and training precinct including a simulation lab

The hospital’s design is being guided by local Aboriginal knowledge to build connections with Country, including the use of Dhurga language to support wayfinding around the hospital campus and the inclusion of a Meeting Place.

Early works on the new Eurobodalla Regional Hospital are expected to commence in late 2022 with main works construction scheduled to commence in 2023. The hospital is expected to open to patients in 2025.

Eurobodalla Regional Hospital is part of the NSW Government’s record $11.9 billion investment in health infrastructure over four years to 2025-26, with nearly a third of the capital allocation in this financial year going towards regional and rural health facilities.

Since 2011, the Government has built more than 180 hospitals and health facilities across NSW, with more than 130 currently underway – of those, more than 90 are in rural and regional areas.
