The reserve, which wraps itself around the Maldon township, includes all of Mount Tarrengower, the Nuggetty Ranges and the Muckleford Forest. Many of the walking tracks are within easy access of town, with no driving required.

Led by Friends of Maldon Historic Reserve (FoMHR) the three leisurely one and a half hour walks will take place in May and will explore our unique and significant landscape while discovering gold mining relics, discussing the history of commercial and residential buildings and areas of historical significance.

Participants will be provided with a free detailed brochure, ‘A Walk in the Park’, which includes a comprehensive guide to the Maldon Town Walking Tracks and detailed photos of historical areas and information.

Walk details:

Beginning at Maldon Neighbourhood Centre at 9.30am, the walks are free – no bookings required.

  • 6 May: From Beehive Mine to South German Mine area and Long Gully- easy to moderate
  • 13 May: From Beehive through to the Alliance Mine and Battery up to Union Hill Mine – easy to moderate
  • 20 May: Anzac Hill, Tarrengower Tunnel and along High Street – moderate

Friends of Maldon Historic Reserve (FoMhR) formed in January 2021 to help increase communication with Parks Victoria to increase collaboration in order to preserve, protect and promote Maldon’s reserve.

FoMHR is a group of like-minded people who communicate via email and meet three monthly before meeting with staff of Parks Victoria to communicate about issues specific to Maldon regarding park maintenance and preservation of our natural and cultural assets.

The group has successfully implemented a number of concerns raised in the Tarrangower Tomorrow plan, such as: improving communication with Parks Victoria, having better weed management, restoring and developing Long Gully and improving walking tracks.
