Raising a glass to the Maldon CFA

When Kevin Moloney and Janetta Stones opened their BnB known as The Little Cottage (or TLC), in Maldon last year, they wanted to add a few points of difference. Their mission was to ensure their guests received a true hospitality experience but one that had a definite Maldon brand.

One point of difference was the inclusion of a minibar in the cottage. “Who doesn’t love a mini bar?” Janetta explained. We wanted to make sure our guests had everything they wanted including a drink of choice when they arrived. But there was more we could do than just be a de facto publican.”

As neither Kevin nor Janetta possess a liquor licence, selling alcohol was out of the question. “So, we provide a small carafe of whisky and gin which are complimentary.” Janetta continued. “However, we also stock the fridge with mixers and provide a range of nuts, chocolates and other snacks for which we suggest a few dollars each as a donation. It’s just like the mini bar you’d find in a five-star hotel.”

But here’s the kicker.

Kevin and Janetta wanted to acknowledge the great work our local CFA performs and let guests (who are usually from the city) know what a vital role they play in protecting us all. All profits from the mini bar goes directly to the Maldon CFA. So, every drink their guests enjoy and every snack they nibble on goes to support them.

“It’s our way of spreading the word and getting the engagement of our guests. They love the concept, are very generous and are more than willing to support our men and women in the CFA. Yep, it’s obvious they’re happy to raise a glass to them”.

Footnote: Despite lockdowns, the TLC minibar raised $300.00 this year.
