The traditional 2 x2 x 2 x2 format of this competition allows players to play in the lead and third position or the 2nd and skips position which many think is the purest of all formats of Pairs play. The enthusiastic and talented young duo of NSW CHS representative Elli Dixon and superstar Shae Wilson were taking on the ever improving Debby Adams playing with Ladies super skip Petal Jones provided spectators with one of the best games played in recent years at the Club.

Both teams had cruised through their semi finals with easy wins over talented oppositions with Shae and Ellie defeating the strong combination of Kate Smith and Maddy Cody 29-5 after 14 of 18 ends and Petal and Debby accounting for Club Champion Ester Sanchez and star junior Maycee Deszecsar by 25-7 after 16 of 18 ends.

In the final both leads (Debby and Ellie) started off playing awesome bowls which appeared to then set the skips into action to produce every shot in their talented repertoires.Right from the very first end all players contributed bowls that many term as “bombs” to change the scoring situation to wet the appetite of the spectators as to what was to come.

After 8 ends of the 18 end final Shae and Ellie were cruising along picking up single shots to set up a very handy 10-6 lead but the 9th end saw Petal and Deb pick up a potential match changing 7 shots to hit the lead.To their credit Shae and Ellie knuckled down combining well to again take the lead and then extend their position to sit at 18-13 with only five ends to go. This came after wins on three consecutive ends where they scored 3 shots, then 1 shot and finally 4 shots. Many spectators again thought that the game was all but over but as we all know bowls is not over until that lady sings.

Petal and Deb showed all of their class and experience by playing immaculate bowls for the remaining five ends to win every end to win the game 24-18 and be crowned champions for this year.

The final of the Mixed Pairs is set down to be the next final to be played and hopefully this game will also be Live Streamed on our Facebook page at a date to be fixed in the near future. Again there will be more stars on show with Tim Sheridan teaming up with Shae Wilson against the up and coming Tanya Randall and the master bowler John (Moochie) Christian.

This promises to be a cracker of a game so everyone is invited to come down to watch a great final.

Don’t forget that our famous Bistro is open seven days a week for both lunch and dinner and there is plenty of cold drinks available sip on while enjoying the marvellous food.
