Wildflowers have officially flourished throughout the region and Mullewa are throwing a festival in celebration of them this August.

Outback Bloom – Mullewa’s Wildflower Festival features bushwalks, flower displays, botanical artist talks, a bush tucker afternoon tea, information sessions plus a whole lot more.

City of Greater Geraldton Mayor Shane Van Styn said it was a beautiful time in the Midwest.

“There’s never been a better time to plan a road trip around WA’s Wildflower Country because there is colour absolutely everywhere,” he said.

“The rain has done wonders for this season’s blooms and you’ll be able to learn all about them and see a huge variety at Outback Bloom – Mullewa’s Wildflower Festival.

“I think this year’s event is going to be a big one and recommend travellers of all ages to check it out! The City of Greater Geraldton are really proud to sponsor this fantastic event through our Community Grants Program.”

Mullewa Community Resource Centre Coordinator Holly Freeman said there is so much to do during this year’s Outback Bloom Festival.

“The star of the festival is the Mullewa Wildflower Show. Our beautiful Town Hall is transformed into a magical wildflower display, which features hundreds of identified and labelled flora species from around the district,” she said.

“If you want to learn more about our wildflowers, why not book into one of free guided wildflower walks? Or if you’re interested in local Indigenous culture, come along to our Bush Tucker Afternoon Tea for a cuppa and listen to a series of presentations on bush medicine, language and history by local Southern Yamatji Peoples.

“There is so much to do in Mullewa during wildflower season. Make sure you pop into the Mullewa Visitor Centre to find the best wildflower hunting hotspots and for the latest updates check our social media – @VisitMullewa”.

The festival officially starts at 9.30am on Thursday 26 August with the official opening at Mullewa’s Town Hall. It concludes on Sunday 29th August with a wildflower hunt at 2pm.

The Mullewa Agricultural Show is taking place on Saturday 28 August and is gearing up to be a big weekend.
