Wagga Wagga City Council, Media Release, 11 June 2021
Tourism businesses and organisations are invited to come on board to work together to build greater awareness and encourage visitation to the Wagga Wagga + Surrounds region.
Applications to join the Wagga Wagga Tourism Partner Program for 2021/22 are now open.
The program provides businesses and other organisations an opportunity to be involved in tourism marketing initiatives as well as industry workshops and events, coordinated by the Wagga Wagga City Council’s Visitor Economy and Events team.
“We are busily planning a full calendar of events, marketing campaigns, networking opportunities and workshops for this year’s program,” Ms Hamilton said. “It will be great to bring partners together to meet face to face again, something that was restricted last year due to COVID-19.
“Domestic travel is booming in regional areas as people are exploring a little closer to home, which is a significant opportunity to leverage off.”
Fiona Durman from Wagga Wagga’s Ashculme Textiles said her agritourism business has been part of the Tourism Partner Program for several years now and she continues to see benefits from the program.
“It’s been incredibly beneficial, both at the beginning to get our name out there, and then later for ongoing support and visibility,” Ms Durman said.
“The proactive approach to marketing our region has a far greater reach than we could achieve by ourselves.
“I am looking forward to continuing on as a member of the program and excited to see what the next 12 months brings.
To be eligible to sign up, tourism businesses and organisations must be within a 120km radius of the Wagga Wagga LGA and must be accessible and cater to visitors.
Program categories include attractions, restaurant and eateries, accommodation and event venues, along with a new ‘start-up’ category for tourism businesses in their first two years of operation.
The benefits of becoming a Wagga Tourism Partner include:
- Inclusion in the Wagga Wagga + Surrounds Visitor Guide and other digital and print publications such as the Top Spot guides, Events and Conference Guide;
- Collaboration with local government and other local businesses who are passionate and excited to build and advocate tourism in our region; and,
- Industry development through staff support and access to workshops and networking events
Signups are available all year round, however, to be included in the Wagga Wagga + Surrounds Visitor Guide businesses and organisations are encouraged to sign up by 28 July, 2021.
