Somerset Mayor Graeme Lehmann said council was using a new plasticised binder in its resurfacing project.

“Riders should try out the new sections north and south of Coominya which is where we are using the new materials,” Cr Lehmann said.

“It feels distinctly different from the old surface.

“We have been able to upgrade these sections thanks to joint funding from the Queensland Government under the Unite and Recover Community Stimulus Program.

“Residents will see a lot more work on the BVRT over the coming months with the aim of attracting riders further north along the trail.”

Cr Lehmann said council was also going to trial asphalt containing more than 13,000 waste tyres in road surface projects in Esk and Kilcoy.
