Aquatic centre’s water management efforts recognised by Water Corporation

The Kwinana Recquatic Centre is now a ‘Gold’ Waterwise Aquatic Centre, recognised by Water Corporation for demonstrating best practice water management.

Kwinana Recquatic Manager Michael Hayes said in order to be ‘Gold’ recognised, the Centre had to align its water usage to industry benchmarking standards, implement changes to fixtures and fittings, and continue to strive for best practice water management systems.

“The Centre is extremely proud of their ongoing commitment to the Waterwise Centre Program, which encourages modification of water use practices in order to monitor and reduce water usage throughout the Centre,” Mr Hayes said.

“Some examples of what the Recquatic did to achieve this include installing new waterwise fixtures to all showers and taps, installing waterwise flushing systems for toilets and daily monitoring of water usage in the aquatic facility.”

Mayor Carol Adams said the City’s aim was to be a water sensitive and climate resilient community.

“We are proud, once again, to be recognised for yet another sustainability initiative in the City of Kwinana,” Mayor Adams said.

The Recquatic was among 15 aquatic centres acknowledged at a special recognition event on Wednesday 12 May, co-hosted by Water Corporation and the Department of Water and Environment Regulation (DWER) to celebrate the achievements of Western Australia’s top waterwise councils and aquatic centres.

This was the first time aquatic centres had been recognised at the event.

The Waterwise Aquatic Centre Program was created in partnership with the Leisure Institute of Western Australia Aquatics.
