Nobby to be biosecurity surveillance target

Landholders in Nobby will be targeted by Toowoomba Regional Council’s Biosecurity Surveillance Program in the 2024/25 financial year. Nobby in one of six places in the region to be selected as a priority surveillance area for the upcoming year, alongside Athol, Gilla, Douglas, Malling and Dunmore.

Recovery hub has done its job

The Towong Shire Council will hold a community celebration to recognise the vital role it has played in the recovery from the 2019-20 Black Summer bushfires. After three and a half years, the funding to support the hub’s operations will cease on June and the facility will close.

All hands on deck as Mossman harvest gets green light: Canegrowers

‘Huge loss’: Mayor seeks State help after Bonza collapse

Sunshine Coast Mayor Rosanna Natoli is calling on the Queensland Government to address the wide-reaching impacts felt through the loss of Bonza Airlines ... Rates go up 5 per cent

Local ratepayers have been slapped with a rate increase of five per cent for the next financial year. Elected members of the Naracoorte Lucindale Council had mixed reactions to the increase, but the majority agreed a five per cent increase was the right thing to do to safeguard and protect the council, which is in a “dangerous position” financially. The council administration had initially proposed a 5.8 per cent increase in rates via a 53-page document...

‘Forgotten’ rail line to be raised with Federal Government

Narrandera Shire Council will discuss with the Federal Member for Farrer Sussan Ley MP and the Federal Government the possibility to reinstate the Narrandera to Tocumwal Rail Line as a supplementary line to the planned Wagga Inland Rail Route. Cr Jenny Clarke said a previous Council had lobbied vigorously for the Narrandera to Tocumwal line to be reinstated, but unfortunately all the progress achieved had been basically forgotten by the current Council.

Stephanie Thompson. Telstra is “sincerely sorry” for the impact of a cloud service crash last week that continues to “cripple” all three local councils. The outage is continuing to impact Loxton Waikerie, Berri Barmera and Renmark Paringa councils, rendering them unable to complete almost all core functions.

Partnerships result in continued progress for Lockyer Valley and Somerset Water Security

Latest upgrades to the Coolabunia Saleyards

South Burnett Regional Council is pleased to announce the latest upgrades to the Coolabunia Saleyards. Funded by Council’s capital works program, ten new catwalks have been renewed, with the replacement of some original catwalks that were built back in 1982.

A proposed planning permit application for a 16-block subdivision on land in Maldon that is bordered by Lowther, Polsue and Reef Streets is once again in the spotlight ... Valuation negation – 5.68% rise as council combats skyrocketing home prices

An average residential rate increase of 5.68 per cent – or $82 – is likely across the Berri Barmera district for 2024/25, after the local council cut its rate in the dollar to combat skyrocketing valuations ... Residential valuations alone –made by the Adelaide-based Valuer General – across Berri Barmera will rise by a whopping 15.28 per cent, or almost $186 million, in 2024/25. “With the State Government’s capital valuation growth so high, council has resolved to reduce the rate in the dollar across all property types,” Berri Barmera chief executive officer Tim Pfeiffer told The Murray Pioneer.

Council welcomes $10 million funding for water treatment plants

In July last year the construction of much-needed new water treatment plants for Ivanhoe and Wilcannia was put in doubt because of a funding shortfall. Today NSW Senator Deb O'Neill visited Wilcannia to announce $10 million in additional funding for water treatment plants at White Cliffs, Wilcannia and Ivanhoe and new potable water rearticulation scheme at White Cliffs.

Heated pool gets the nod

It was D-Day for Hay’s proposed hydrotherapy pool last Tuesday, the culmination of a 30-year effort by the Hay community. The pendulum was swinging between the need for a heated pool and Council’s deliberation on replacing the ageing John Houston Memorial Swimming Pool.

No more band-aids for pool

There will be no further band-aid remedies for Hay’s 60-year-old John Houston Memorial Pool. Hay is to get a new swimming pool after Council made the difficult decision last week to borrow up to $4million.
