As SES Week celebrations kick off across the state, Queensland’s volunteers in orange are being honoured for their outstanding efforts in helping their communities prepare and respond to emergencies.

Tenants have moved in to eight new tiny homes in Gympie, delivered to help ease housing pressures in the region. The factory-built homes were installed at GRAP, which was a joint project between the Queensland Government and Gympie Regional Council after floods devastated the town.

New state-of-the-art technology will be unveiled, helping first responders overcome dangerous communications black spots to keep them better connected during emergencies. Mobile Wi-Fi equipment has now been installed in over 1,300 Fire and Rescue NSW and NSW State Emergency Service (SES) vehicles, which will ensure 4G or satellite communication access during incident responses.

Greater Shepparton City Council invites members of the Undera and surrounding communities to an information session providing a comprehensive update on flood outlook, flood recovery actions, and essential emergency readiness. The session will be delivered in partnership with VicSES, Goulburn Murray Water, and the Goulburn Broken Catchment Management Authority.

The final stage of Carisbrook Levee project was completed in June 2023 and Council is now working with our funding partners to confirm a date for an official opening ... This project has delivered a significant piece of infrastructure which will mitigate flooding for the township of Carisbrook.

As the mural which adorns the Lawrence water tower continues to attract plenty of admiration, members of the Lawrence Community Fundraising Inc (LCFI) have expressed their disappointment, insisting the idea behind the project originated from a proposal by a resident more than 12 months ago following a consultation hosted by the group to encourage community conversations and invite locals to share their thoughts about additions they wanted in their village.

Kyogle Council recently completed the construction of four new bridges – Tierneys Bridge on Duck Creek Rd, Comerfords No 1 on Roseberry Creek Rd, Tims Lane bridge and Old Cob O’ Corn Road bridge ... Next to be completed are new bridges on Williams Rd, Boorabee Creek Rd and Trentys Lane.

The Australian Government has funded the installation of digital advance warning flood signs at three sites in our Local Government Area to improve safety for motorists during future weather events ... The installations include automatic electric warning signs, as well as a separate camera mounted on a high pole at each site where the stream gauge/sensor is located.

The 7.8km long levee runs through Ms Johnston’s property and it is meant to protect the Bungawalbin catchment from flooding including protecting Swan Bay, New Italy and Woodburn. Ms Johnston has been fighting to be heard. When she asked CSIRO research scientist Jai Vaze who was travelling with Mr Watt about it, he drew a blank.

Federal Minister for Emergency Management Murray Watt stood on the banks of the Richmond River on Friday, July 28, to announce $100million for flood resilience projects across five council shires. The funding is the second part of $150 million with $50 million announced in February.

The State Government has announced extended recovery support to cane farmers to help remove dangerous flood waste found in cane paddocks at the beginning of the cane harvest. The NSW Environment Protection Authority has agreed to work with local cane farmers to remove the waste at no cost to the farmers.

A report providing an update on the progress of key activities under the Basin Plan has been issued by the Murray–Darling Basin Authority. The tenth in a series, this report card reflects the progress made in first 6 months of 2023, during a period of significant flooding and flood recovery around the Murray–Darling Basin.

NSW Canegrowers are annoyed and frustrated by government inaction and the failure to utilise the $5 million dollars allocated to the Northern NSW Drainage Reset Program in February this year. "Governments are very good at coming into disaster areas and promising money for recovery, but are extremely poor on delivery," Chairman of NSW Canegrowers Association Ross Farlow said.

The NSW Government is ramping up efforts to tackle rising feral pig populations across the state, providing an $8 million boost to help fund a new coordinated control program ... The one-year program will bring the NSW Government spend on control of feral pig populations to $13 million in the 2023-24 financial year.
