Kerang Shows up

Kendall Jennings. Mother nature dealt the Kerang and District Agricultural Society an unfair hand as they prepared for the 136th Kerang Annual Show with rain that made the Kerang Turf Club waterlogged. It was a moment of damned if you do, damned if you don’t, deciding if the event would go ahead or not last week.

The Show is coming back to Kyogle! 7-8 October 2022

After an absence of three years the Kyogle Show is returning to the the Kyogle showgrounds on the 7th and 8th of October. With the return of traditional events plus some new entertainment to excite the kids and adults alike.

After two years off from showing we went to Adelaide Royal this year with no expectations - just wanting to compare our sheep with fellow breeders and catch up after such a long enforced break. So it was with great excitement and pride when our Poll Dorset ram 21-616 (sired by our own Mullinger Park 17-348) was judged the Champion ram.

Henty worth $100 million to economy

After a two-year hiatus the national economy benefited from a $100 million injection from the biggest and most successful Henty Machinery Field Days on record ... Held on September 20-22, the 59th annual field days featured 14km of outdoor shop fronts from over 800 exhibitors on over 1200 sites.

Giorgi Ambassador finalist

Kirstin Nicholson. Presenting ribbons to champion terriers, sorting grain, rubbing shoulders with racing’s greats and fine dining were all part of Giorgi Boucher’s Melbourne Royal Show experience last weekend. Giorgi wasn’t there purely for the thrill of the show, though, she was there for the Rural Ambassador Award state finals. Giorgi won the Rural Ambassador Award at the Cohuna Show in March, then won at the Northern District Agricultural Shows Association regional finals.

The theme for this year's Numurkah Show is bees. Several classes in the Pavilions will be centred around the theme and there will be a Bee Display showing the many reasons why the bee is a major component in agriculture and our lives generally.

The Ararat Show is a fun family event, heaps of competitions and displays which are held throughout the day; including a shearing, wool production, poultry, sheep show, horses and dog show.

This year we are excited to reveal our recently completed new pavilion ... The new pavilion will enable us to create one large display including art, craft, needlework, cooking, horticulture, floral art, fruit/vegetables, farm produce, school work, Lego creations, wool and photography.

Kerang Orchid Show blooms

Kendall Jennings. Residents around the district supported the Kerang Orchid Show blooming in the Kerang Basketball Stadium over the weekend, hosted by the Mid-Murray Orchid Club. After a three-year hiatus due to Covid-19 restrictions, judges from Melbourne travelled to Kerang to award displays designed by local growers.

Quorn, situated in the beautiful Flinders Ranges, will hold its annual show on Sunday 25th September from 9.00 pm until 4.00 pm. The population is approximately 1200 people, and our show is the most northern in South Australia.

Ribbon haul for Dean

Kirstin Nicholson. Cohuna’s Dean Smith has just returned from the Royal Adelaide Show with a haul of Grand Champion ribbons. Dean and his family own Strzboer Goat Stud and breed Fullblood Boer Goats, the fullblood meaning that there is traceability with genetics back to South Africa. With 10 years of showing experience at Sydney Royal Easter Show and numerous local and interstate shows, Adelaide had been beckoning.

Voice of the shows enters state equestrian body’s hall of fame

There are voices that are instantly recognisable, Morgan Freeman is an example in movies, Bert Newton on TV and for the Australian horse community it’s Graeme Barker. This week Equestrian Victoria awarded him "hall of fame" status for his service to the equestrian industry as one of Australia’s finest commentators.
