Colour is uppermost in the mind when you view Craig Gough’s latest exhibition, which is on show at Cascade Art. The exhibition was officially opened by Linden New Art Director and CEO Dr Vincent Alessi last Saturday.

Coonawarra heralds a smashing vintage

The 2024 Coonawarra Vintage was declared open in smashing fashion ... with a crowd of over 60 people gathering at the iconic Coonawarra Siding to herald in the new season. The Vintage Launch Ceremony saw Coonawarra and district community members, wine industry stakeholders and dignitaries come together to acknowledge and celebrate this significant time in the region.

Milestone year for Carnival of Flowers

Eighty-three events and activations (making up a combined total of 1025 days) will be on offer at this year’s 75th anniversary Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers. The Carnival is taking place over four weekends in Spring from 13 September to 7 October.

Festival caters for family fun

Preparations are in full swing for this year’s Man From Snowy River Bush Festival (April 11th-14th) which is expected to be one of the best attended and most successful in its 29-year history. "We are genuinely excited with what we have in front of us in delivering the 2024 festival," said festival chairman, Cameron Jackson.

Rod Run exceeds all expectations

Competition was tough among the hundreds of rodders at this year’s Rod Run, with a record number of entrants and over 500 cars at Sunday’s Show and Shine. The competition was made up of old and new entrants with cars of all makes, models and colours competing  for five prize categories - Top Rod, Top Kruiser, Top Ride, Young Rodder and Top Kustom.

Shearing legends to be honored at 11th Festival of the Blades

Five notable shearing legends will be honoured at Shear Outback’s 11th Festival of the Blades over the October long weekend, Saturday 5th and Sunday 6th ... “These legends are famous in the world of shearing, and should be acknowledged for their outstanding contributions and achievements to the shearing industry,” Shear Outback board chair, Sam Barnes said. They are Deniliquin’s Brian Sullivan, Alan Williams (Moama), Peter Black (Dongara, WA) and Damien Boyle (Broomehill West, WA).

A century of country wedding dresses

Church reaches milestone

A decade ago the future of the Holy Trinity Anglican Church in Cudgewa looked bleak. The floor was riddled with white ants and the inside was in great need of patching and painting. Much discussion was held on whether it would remain open considering the nature of the repairs needed and dwindling church attendance.

Art trio showcase our natural beauty

The usual Show and Shine will take place on Easter Sunday again at the Narrandera Sportsground like last year...

Reflecting on our Rod Run history

Narrandera's Easter Rod Run actually originated in a modest kitchen of Narrandera milkman Mal Christie. In Graham Smith’s fourth edition of his full colour glossy magazine The Australian Hot Rodder, Christie told Smith that it all began on Boxing Day 1970 when Victorian drag racer and show judge John English stopped over in Narrandera with his family on their way to Queensland.

Day of the Dackel

Balingup Small Farm Field Day, 6 April 2024

The Balingup Small Farm Field Day is being held on Saturday April 6th 9am til 3.30pm on Balingup Town Oval. It is the largest of its kind in the area and has been running every year since 1991 except for COVID cancellations. Farm visits run on 6th and 7th April.

70th Donnybrook Apple Festival, 30 March 2024

Established in 1954, the 2024 Festival marks the 70th Anniversary of this important Donnybrook community event. Following the success of the immersive, “Street Festival” approach in 2023, the Apple Festival will again be held throughout the main street of Donnybrook from the Amphitheatre at one end of town to Egan Park incorporating Ayers Garden, Station Square, Apple Fun Park, Pump Track and part of Collins Street.

Gypsy Cobs – a breed loved for work ethic and temperament

The Gypsy Cob is one of the “new” breeds being seen in Australian show rings in recent years. Their history is based in the Romani culture. As their work horses and living with the Romani families, they developed a strong work ethic and equitable temperament. They were so cherished by their owners that the saying was that “gypsy gold does not clink and glitter, it gleams in the sun and neighs in the dark”.

First of the big Welsh shows features some hot competition

Welsh ponies seem to bloom in March, with NSW leading the way, followed by the Victorian show later in the month. The 2024 NSW All Welsh Show was held at the Hawkesbury Showground, Clarendon, which is just west of Sydney before the Blue Mountains.

cluBarham to host World Champion of Champions

World Bowls has announced that cluBarham will be hosting the 2025 and 2026 World Bowls Champion of Champion events. World Bowls CEO, Neil Dalrymple advised that the Board of World Bowls had made its decision last week following an expression of interest process.
