As funding stalls and falls behind – regional shows out in the cold
Much-loved Agricultural Shows across Victoria are taking an unfair hit, with the State Government funding frozen and failing to keep pace with the rising cost-of-living. Despite soaring inflation, the Agriculture and Pastoral Society Grants Program has remained stagnant at $300,000 in total funding, with a $10,000 maximum for each Show. In real terms, funding for Agricultural Shows has dramatically dropped. Staggeringly, there is less funding available than 19 years ago.
Show delivers a memorable day for the region
Following extensive efforts from the committee and dedicated volunteers, the annual Tennant Creek Show welcomed enthusiastic crowds to the showground last Friday morning. It was a day filled with joy and entertainment, attracting residents from all corners of Barkly to partake in the festivities.
Casseroles connecting community
Kimberly Grabham. Hay CWA Casserole days have been the catalyst for fun, laughter and catching up. The third casserole day last Thursday was another raging success. Tables set up at Hay War Memorial Hall were packed, and the building reverberated with lively chatter.

The program for the 2024 Goldfields Gothic Festival has been announced and it promises to be another celebration of all things mysterious and darkly glamorous. Spread across the weekend of Friday 2 August to Sunday 4 August, the festival will feature poetry, parlour games, spectres and stories plus magic and lots of music.
Ceramist to share evolutionary story
South African ceramic artist Madoda Fani will be artist in residence at Denmark Arts from August to September. Madoda’s African heritage inspires his hand-coiled, burnished and smoke-fired pieces that are a contemporary evolution of the traditional ceramics of his country.
145th Australian Sheep and Wool Show, 19-21 July 2024
Onwards and upwards is the theme for the 2024 Australian Sheep and Wool Show, which captures the camaraderie and community spirit of an agricultural sector that is constantly adapting to meet changing market conditions. The 145th annual event will be held at the Prince of Wales Showgrounds in Bendigo from July 19-21, bringing together stakeholders from all aspects of the sheepmeat and wool industries.

Frostbite Rally riders roar into town
The Warwick Chapter of the Historical Motorcycle Club of Queensland will host their 30th Anniversary Rally in Allora this weekend with riders coming from Northern New South Wales, Brisbane, Townsville, Brisbane and all around South East Queensland. At least 140 riders and pillions with their precious bikes will gather at the Allora Showgrounds.
Record interest in livestock and biosecurity initiative: VFF
The Victorian Farmers Federation’s (VFF) livestock biosecurity and welfare initiative, Stock Sense, is experiencing record high attendance at its Victorian events and workshops, reflecting a growing appetite amongst producers and the community for its resources. VFF Livestock President Scott Young said the initiative has never been more important since launching in its current format in 2021.
State Ag Show Convention success at Kaniva
This weekend Kaniva welcomed delegates from 47 shows across the state. This year’s convention was deemed a success by all. Participants travelled from right across Victoria; from Seymour to Mildura, Dandenong and Cohuna. The Kaniva A&P Society was announced as the host of the annual State Victorian Agricultural Shows Convention at Geelong last year.
