Peter Walsh MP. All roads led to Barmah at the weekend as hundreds of people scrambled for access to hundreds of tonnes of flood-damaged fallen trees rescued for use as firewood. Coming out of the Barmah Forest, the wood was originally pushed into 70 large piles and was going to be burnt by Parks Victoria staff.

Percy Leason’s iconic cartoon ‘Off to the Show, or The Man They Left Behind Them’ graces the cover of this year’s Kaniva Show schedule. Michelle Daw. The GrainFlow site at Maitland is one of five storage and handling sites in South Australia and western Victoria to be bought by Viterra from Cargill. The other sites are at Crystal Brook, Mallala, Pinnaroo and Dimboola. Viterra has also announced it will buy Cargill’s mobile ship loader at Port Adelaide.

Dr Gary Bacon AM. Rare it is to have a definitive historical date and place for the discovery of a natural renewable resource that is the foundation of an industry which prospers to the present day. Tuesday 21 September 1824 is that note-worthy date and we have a precise record of that discovery on the banks of the Brisbane River.

A Quinns Rocks man has had his fishing licence suspended and has been prohibited from being on any recreational fishing boat or possessing recreationally caught rock lobster for six months. When the 58-year-old man appeared in Joondalup Magistrates Court he was ordered to pay fines, penalties and costs totalling more than $19,000.

Cattle prices surged by 6.3 per cent month-on-month in August, highlighting strong demand and boosting the NAB Rural Commodities Index*, which remained unchanged overall despite significant variability among individual agricultural commodities. NAB’s August Rural Commodities Wrap, released today, notes that while the overall index held steady, global dairy prices also partially recovered after sharp declines in July, contributing to the positive momentum in cattle prices.

Singapore horticultural show garden, Gardens by the Bay’s first Australian-themed floral display Carnival of Flowers, inspired by Toowoomba’s ongoing event, opened this week with a mini “floral float” parade.
