Round 7 of the Central Coast Rugby Union season delivered one of the most memorable weekends in recent memory, with the inaugural Festival of Rugby taking centre stage at Tuggerah Sports Complex on May 30.

Despite wet weather causing widespread sporting disruptions across the region, CCRU stood alone as the only major sporting competition on the Central Coast to complete its full schedule.

With all matches played at one venue, players, officials, volunteers and supporters were treated to a fantastic showcase of community rugby.

What began under grey skies quickly turned into a glorious day, creating the perfect atmosphere.

In Premier 1, the Razorbacks delivered a stunning 106-5 victory over GK Rugby.

The dominant performance sees the Razorbacks claim top spot on the ladder heading into the second leg of the season and firmly establishes them as a major premiership contender.

Avoca Beach continued their strong campaign with an impressive 40-19 victory over Lake Macquarie, while Terrigal were far too strong for Northlakes, running out 52-5 winners.

Warnervale also maintained their momentum with a convincing 41-11 win over a much-improved Woy Woy outfit.

Women’s Premier 1, GK Rugby made it back-to-back victories with a commanding 47-14 win over the Razorbacks, continuing their climb up the competition ladder.

Earlier in the day, Woy Woy and Warnervale produced one of the most entertaining contests of the festival, with the Lions edging out Warnervale 24-19 in a thrilling encounter that went right down to the wire.

Avoca Beach completed a clean sweep across all four grades against Lake Macquarie.

Terrigal also celebrated a clean sweep over Northlakes, highlighted by a dominant 59-0 victory in Premier 3 as the Trojans showcased their depth throughout the club.

The inaugural Festival of Rugby proved to be an outstanding success, bringing together the entire CCRU community in one location for a day that showcased everything that makes community rugby special.
