Families in Barham now have greater access to quality care for their school-aged children, with the launch of a new Out of School Hours (OOSH) service at Barham Public School.
Driven by strong community feedback about the lack of childcare options in the region, the service has been established by Intereach in partnership with Barham Public School and its Parents & Citizens Association.
Intereach Education and Care Manager Jennifer Farrow said the new service was already making a positive difference to local families.
“Childcare demand in rural and regional areas continues to exceed supply, putting pressure on families and limiting opportunities for workforce participation,” she said.
“Our OOSH service helps ease that burden by supporting working parents, creating local jobs, and offering a high-quality, engaging space for children to learn and play.”
The service provides before and after school care, as well as school holiday programs, for primary school-aged children. Operating from the school’s multipurpose room, the site features a large, grassed play area, undercover outdoor space, and a fully equipped kitchen for preparing healthy meals and snacks.
Children attending the program can enjoy fun and enriching activities that encourage social connection, creativity, and healthy routines — all while being supported by caring educators.
Barham Public School P&C President Taylah O’Neill said the partnership between the school and Intereach had helped bring the much-needed service to life.
“This offers vital support to our families while enriching children’s experiences,” she said.
Now, Intereach is calling on enthusiastic, caring locals to join the Barham OOSH team.
“If you love working with children and want to make a difference in their day, we’d love to hear from you,” Ms Farrow said.
“We’re looking for people who can help create a safe, playful and nurturing environment where children can thrive.”
No formal qualifications are needed, and on-the-job training is provided. Intereach offers a fun and rewarding workplace with benefits such as a learning and development opportunities, Salary sacrificing, Employee Assistance Program and opportunities for career progression.
As an experienced OOSH provider, Intereach ensures the service meets all National Quality Standards and is guided by the My Time, Our Place framework — supporting each child’s wellbeing, learning and development.
