The Donald Tractor Pull is getting all geared up for this year’s Donald show – it seems all it needed to gain traction was a couple of major sponsors, so with North West Ag and Adams Family Farms offering to support the new event, organisers can move full throttle towards providing some new and exciting entertainment.
The committee was thrilled these two major sponsors got behind them, and it just goes to show what can be done when these community groups gain the funding they need; all it takes is a little push (or pull, maybe).
Already organisers have been able to book the sled used in the vintage tractor pull at Quambatook each year, manned by an experienced crew of three, to ensure these classic machines have sustantial weight to put them to the test.
Additionally, work at the show grounds has commenced, with machinery taken in to fill in holes and prepare the 100 metre long by 10 metre wide surface, alongside the fire brigade running track, where these tractors in action will be displayed. It will be quite the show indeed, with ten participants already preparing their entries. One can expect to see vintage tractors up to 200 horse power, like a 930 Case from the ’80s, 4010 and, 5020 John Deeres from the ’60s, Massey Fergusons and more.
Why not?
If you have one of these classic tractors sitting idly in your shed, why not give it another day of glory? You might have an old Massey Ferguson or Case retired on the farm, all it needs is a minor repair or a new part to get it going again… now is the time to start fixing up the old workhorse to see what it’s still got left in it.
Charlton too
The committee is hoping for up to 30 entries in the Donald Tractor Pull, and being held in conjunction with Charlton’s Show the following weekend, enthusiasts can take advantage of two local events in which to participate; October 12 and 19 respectively.
Even for those who might want to give it a go for the first time, what better opportunity than at your local show? Support is available for anyone wanting to try it out, and assistance with local transport can be arranged at a reasonable fee, for those who have no way to bring their tractors in to town from the farm. Spaces for this service are limited, however, so bookings are essential and its best to get in early for a pick up schedule to be arranged.
Competitors are encouraged to enter their vintage or classic tractors up to 200 horse power, with prizes awarded in various classes and for participation. Anyone who would like to get involved should get in contact with Neil McEwen on 0428 915 259 or James Doak on 0427 503 551.
Donald Tractor Pull committee members would like to thank the Donald P & A Show for its support in getting behind the new event and providing space for a track to be built for purpose.
High-powered excitement
Nicole Nunn, president of the Donald P & A Society, said the tractor pull is a great addition to the Donald Show because it brings high-powered excitement, showcases local farming talent, and draws big crowds with its thrilling, family-friendly entertainment – and it’s all made possible thanks to the generous support of sponsors, whose backing helps create a memorable experience for the whole community.
Once again, much appreciation should go to major sponsors, North West Ag and Adams Family Farms for getting behind this new event and creating new opportunities for locals to experience the excitement of opening up these little “engines that could” – and certainly did, back in their day.
