WA brothers first and second in the Finke. Bike crown goes to NSW.

Recent stories

West Australian brothers Travis and Beau Robinson starred in the Tatts Finke Desert Race.

Travis (pictured) claimed his first car King of the Desert crown after finishing with the fastest overall time.

Corey Hammond from NSW won the bikes in a total time of 3 hours, 46 minutes and 30.16 seconds to claim his maiden King of the Desert bike crown.

Robinson completed the return leg this morning well under two hours, within 1 hour, 46 minutes and 09.07 seconds alongside Navigator Paul Currie, edging out his older brother Beau, the reigning car champ.

“It’s just a massive accomplishment, it’s something that I’ve always wanted to accomplish my whole life,” Travis said.

“It’s about as good as it gets, the best result possible, 1-2 with my brother.”

It was the first time brothers finished first and second in the race. Shane Hutt navigated for Beau.

Locky and Paddy Weir from the local Offroad Race Club broke down 60 km short of Finke yesterday and came back to town driving a Mack Truck with the racer on the back. Fellow club members came first, second and third in Class 2. Brett Taylor came 15th outright followed by Peter Baulch.

Only two out of six in the Prolite class finished in what Paddy described as a gruelling race.

Update: Trailing Hammond to the finish was good friend Campbell Hall who moved up a place to second and landed his first Finke podium finish in a time of 3 hours, 57 minutes and 58 seconds.

Organisers say all top three riders are vowing to return to the iconic race in 2026, as the event celebrates its 50th year in the Red Centre.
