Local Cohuna manufacturer, AWMA Water Control Solutions, were a part of the Mallee Regional Innovation Centre contingent attending the Mildura Field Days at the Mildura Racetrack last week.
Running over Friday and Saturday there were more than 160 exhibitors, both large and small, showing some of the great innovations happening in the agricultural industry now, including many from the Mallee region.
Developing and manufacturing world class water control solutions from a facility in Cohuna, that employs more than 90 people, AWMA were showcasing their high-performance, self-cleaning intake screens that optimise water extraction while protecting infrastructure and aquatic ecosystems.
AWMA national business development manager for screens, Peter Ebenwalder, said that the company not only has a domestic market but also an international footing, exporting to the Southeast Asian region as well as an office in New Zealand.
“We do a lot of work with the growers in the region and wineries with screens operating at Duxton’s vineyards (Buronga) and they have been having a lot of success with the screens we are supplying,” he said.
“The modern solution for screening is designed to protect fish and aquatic life that will also prolong pump life by replacing older bar screens with a very fine aperture screen down to 2mm. This also has a flow on effect of saving power by not needing back flush pumps.
“We are hoping to encourage more funding and co investors to have further roll outs as we work towards saving the native fish. The aim is to get recovery of our native fish in our natural waterways and prevent them from becoming caught in pumps.”
