The dynamic duo is at it again! Megan and Simon Griffiths have forayed into an additional business venture. They have bought the laundromat on the corner of Lachlan and Leonard Streets, and have given it an amazing rebrand. The happy, friendly couple behind M and S Bus Services have refurbished what is now Meg’s Laundry Lounge. They have created a comfy reading nook, put in a stainless-steel table for washing and folding clothes, and stocked the vending machine with delectable delights from a well-known TikTok personality, Sugar Rush by Steph, including delectable flavours such as Biscoff, Nutella Choc Chip and Red Velvet.
Meg and Simon have been touched by offers and suggestions from the community with offers such as people dropping off magazines into the reading nook, regardless of whether they are in the laundromat at the time or not.
“We became really keen on the idea of revitalising the laundromat, and were concerned the business would shut if nobody bought it, so we decided to dive in,” she said.
Simon will keep on doing what he loves and keep working at Arndt Automotive, and Meg will work in the Laundry Lounge, as well as drive the bus.
Meg as always tried to help people, and a lot of her undertakings have been carried out with this in mind. For instance, when she cut firewood, like her grandfather Tom North before her, she tried to accommodate wherever she could, and offered discounts for pensioners.
So, in this vein, Meg will offer a washing and ironing service.
Now, ironing is one of those tasks you either love or hate. Meg loves it! Having ironed for people as a hobby for years, it is something she enjoys.
“I just pop on some music and iron away; you get through it quite quickly and it’s not a chore at all.
“I really want to help out whoever I can, but I really thought of implementing the washing and ironing service for older people,” she said.
“Older people particularly enjoy having their clothes ironed, including handkerchiefs and other items.
“I would really like to help out. As people get older the little jobs done for them end up being a big help.
“There may be some days here where it is really busy and then others where there is nobody in here, we don’t mind and we go with the flow.
“Also, if people want to come in and say hi, cool off in the air conditioning we welcome that.”
Meg and Simon also now own the little spare block beside the laundromat and have no plans for this yet.
One of the many exciting aspects of the laundromat facelift is the mural.
“The mural will be based on the Hay Sunset, which is the best sunset in the world,” Meg said.
“There will also be a swing in the mural which people can come and have their photo taken with.”
Implementations such as the mural are another wonderful feather in Hay’s cap, yet another reason for people to stop and explore.
A lady of many talents, Meg has had various employment roles throughout the years.
However, she really feels as though she has found her calling, and I wholeheartedly agree.
Having been a passenger on her bus trips more than once, I found the experience to be well curated, and the enthusiasm and earnestness in regards to giving everyone the best time possible is nothing short of endearing.
The second year of M and S Bus Services still has Meg as enthralled as if it was her first day.
“I just love it, I will never stop loving it,” she said.
“One of my favourite jobs to do is to transport the Hay Inc students, they come from everywhere and they are so friendly and chatty,” she said.
“I recently had to transport them from Wyvern station to the Carrathool Pub and back again, and it was a pleasure.
“Sandra Ireson is so well organised and is wonderful to work with.”
The silence of Simon actually speaks volumes.
Happy, quiet and good-natured, it is clear he does what he does for Meg and his family.
Working hard with Meg behind the scenes, they are the perfect pair.
The couple are the epitome of small-town nature; they do what they do without expectation of praise or a pat on the back; they just go around, making the world a better place because doing this is what makes them happy.
Congratulations, guys. Call in and see the happy Meg at the Laundry Lounge, say hi, grab a bickie and have a look around.
The best thing about small towns and communities is we all support each other.
