Police bust: Drugs, firearms and vapes seized in towns

Police in conjunction with NSW Health conducted searches on a business in East Street Narrandera on Friday following information that illegal cigarettes and vapes were being sold.

During this search Police and NSW Health recovered a large quantity of vapes and cigarettes.

Owners of businesses face fines of up to $1.5 million dollars and up to seven years of imprisonment if found guilty.

Inspector OIC Jason Clarke Leeton, Narrandera and Barellan, Murrumbidgee Police District said the matter was still being investigated by NSW Health.

In a separate incident a man has been charged with a number of drug and firearm offences in Leeton.

In May 2024, Strike Force Kilnyana was established to investigate the alleged theft of 15 firearms from a property on Vance Road, Leeton.

About 9am on Wednesday 21 August 2024, officers attached to Murrumbidgee Police District executed search warrants and Firearm Prohibition Order searches at a property in Leeton.

Police seized drugs, a gel blaster glock pistol replica, gel blaster ammunition, a sum of cash and a cash counting machine.

A 38-year-old man was arrested at the scene and taken to Leeton Police Station.

About 9.30am, a subsequent search of a rural property in Barker Road, Leeton, police allegedly seized a rifle scope, alleged to be linked to the theft of 15 firearms.

The man was charged with supply prohibited drug, possess unauthorised pistol, possess unregistered firearm – pistol, acquire pistol – subject to firearms prohibition order, acquire ammunition subject to prohibition order, recklessly deal with proceeds of crime and acquire etc firearm part – subject to prohibition order.

The man was refused bail to appear before the Griffith Local Court on Thursday September 5.

Following inquiries about 10am on Thursday August 22 2024, police attended Houghton Road, Yanco where a box was located in bushes, containing two glock pistol replicas and ammunition.

A further search in nearby bushes uncovered five rifles, ammunition boxes containing large calibre ammunition, and a second box containing firearm parts and ammunition.

Subsequent checks revealed four of the five rifles were firearms stolen from the Vance Road, Leeton property in May 2024.

The fifth rifle is believed to be stolen from a car in Wagga in July 2023.

Strike Force Kilnyana investigations are continuing.
