From the 18th to the 31st of May, a multitude of engaging activities and educational opportunities will unfold, culminating in the Koala Conversations Forum at Southern Cross University on the 1st of June.

Initiated by the Northern Rivers Koala Partnership, comprising six councils and Friends of the Koala, and proudly supported by the NSW Government, Koala Conversations promises an enriching experience for all participants. Silva Evaraers, General Manager of Friends of the Koala, expressed her enthusiasm for the initiative, stating, “Through the collaborative efforts of the Northern Rivers Koala Partnership we are thrilled to present Koala Conversations. This initiative serves as a powerful platform for community engagement and education, focusing on the critical aspects of koala conservation.”

The program features a diverse array of activities aimed at inspiring and mobilising community action. From tree plantings and family fun days to informative workshops and professional development opportunities, there is something for everyone to get involved in. Highlight events include koala habitat plantings with Envite and National Parks and Wildlife Service, a cultural burn by the Jagun Aboriginal Alliance, and special koala collage club events at the Lismore Regional Gallery.

“We have curated a series of engaging and educational activities organised by a variety of organisations, that aim to inspire and mobilise community action. We invite everyone to join us in making a profound impact on koala conservation,” Silva emphasizes.

The Koala Conversations Forum at Southern Cross University promises to be the pinnacle of the program, featuring expert speakers who will delve into topics spanning the themes of protecting, restoring, and creating koala habitat.
