New greens draw a crowd

The investment in synthetic grass greens has proved a winner for the Corryong Golf Club with more than 50 players from across the region competing in the annual tournament on Sunday – the largest field for many years.

The highlights of the day were Division 1 Women’s winner, Dana Lampitt, shooting a new course record of 84 and Gordon Webb recording the second best round on the new course with a 77 in the A Grade Men section.

Results

A Grade Men (Stroke):- 1st – Gordon Webb 77, 2nd – Wayne Dubois 78, 3rd – Derek O’Donovan 85.

A Grade Men (Stableford):- 1st – Shane Bann-on 38 points, 2nd – Andrew Hockey 32; 3rd – Derek Burgess 31 points.

B Grade Men:- 1st – Robert Newnham 34 points, 2nd – Kelly Galbraith 31, 3rd – Simon Mohr 30.

C Grade Man:- Dan McInnes 35 points, 2nd – Richard Bennetts 34; 3rd (on c/back) – Karl Grouenwoud 34.

Div 1 Women:- 1st – Dana Lampitt 84, 2nd – Sylvia Spring 94.

Div 2 Women:- 1st – Belinda Attree 37 points, 2nd – Joy Bennetts 36.

NTPs:- B Men – Alan Atherton; C Men – Tony Jarvis; Div 1 Women – Dana Lampitt.

Longest Drives:- A Men – Shane Bannon; B Men – Derek O’Donovan; C Men – Dan McInnes; Div 1 – Dana Lampitt; Div 2 – Joy Bennetts.

Straightest Drive:- A Men – Gordon Webb; B Men – Mark McFarland; C Men – Steve Kishere; Div 1 – Dana Lampitt; Div 2 – Joy Bennetts.

The club has started its junior development program on Monday with a dozen keen youngsters taking to the course for the training sessions.

The sessions run on Mondays at 4.30pm and are open to all school aged children. Equipment is provided or bring your own clubs. Tuition is provided by qualified community instructors. Latecomers welcome.

Mondays: 9 holes ($5) / Wednesdays: 9 or 18 holes ($6)

Notes: For 9 hole weekend comps put $5 entry and scorecards in the green fees box. Saturday & Sunday comps and 18 hole monthly medals are for men and women.

Welaregang

Another good turn out of eight golfers contested the 9@9 last Saturday. Billy Bond fell over the line with 18 points, just one ahead of Paul Land and Dixie Coutts.

On Sunday, five players represented the club in the Corryong Tournament with Tony Jarvis scoring a NTP prize, the others “also participated”.

The club’s AGM will be held on 23rd March (12 noon), leading into Opening day on 7th April.
