Greater Shepparton City Council, Media Release, 24 January 2024

Greater Shepparton City Council and the University of Melbourne Department of Rural Health, in collaboration with local artist Eric Brown, have designed the newest addition of the Moooving Art Herd, UniMoo.

This is the first addition to the Moooving Art Herd in 2024, with many new designs in the works for the upcoming year. UniMoo will be located at the front of the Department of Rural Health at 49 Graham Street, Shepparton.

Moooving Art is an iconic part of the Shepparton & Goulburn Valley landscape. It is an ever-changing public art exhibition using a unique canvas – 3D life sized cows. Each member of the herd is created by local artists to celebrate our culturally diverse and inspiring region.

UniMoo was able to greet students from Friday 26 January 2024, prior to the students arriving to commence their study for the year. Greater Shepparton City Council’s Mayor, Cr Shane Sali, is thrilled to have another cow in the herd.

“We are very excited to have received UniMoo this week and look forward to showing it off to the University of Melbourne community. We encourage all students, new or existing, to get out and explore our region to see all the wonderful Moooving Art cows.” Cr Sali said.

“It was fantastic to have Eric creating this one with the help of some university students. It is great for them to understand the process, Eric has done some fantastic pieces in the past and UniMoo was no different. The Council are very grateful for the time and effort he puts in”.

This is not the first time Eric Brown has created artwork for The University of Melbourne. A walk through the foyer at the Department of Rural Health reveals just how many other artworks by Eric exist among other artists’ work.

UniMoo is painted in the University colours, with the design representing the four main campuses of the University, with Shepparton at the centre. The campuses are connected by groups within the community which the University are involved in. The final touch to the design is the healing hands of the students.

There are over 90 cows and calves in the Moooving Art herd located across Shepparton & Goulburn Valley. They are constantly on the mooove, with a list of their locations available on the Shepparton & Goulburn Valley website: https://sheppandgv.com.au/see-and-do/moooving-art/meet-the-herd.
