Narrandera High students excel in HSC

Recent stories

Narrandera High School finished the school year on a high with the release of HSC results on Thursday.

NHS achieved great results this year, with five students making the Distinguished Achievers List and many receiving results in the top bands.

This year’s top achiever, Camilo Gonzalez Monardes, achieved an ATAR of 91.45 and has attributed part of his success to the school.

“Thank you to NHS! I couldn’t have done it without the support and guidance of everyone at Narrandera High, including my teachers, peers and the rest of the school staff,” he said.

“If I could say anything to people going into an HSC course, it’s to not take it so seriously it becomes a constant worry; the worst thing you can do is put so much pressure on yourself or you collapse before the finish.”

Camilo earned Band 6’s in Investigating Science and Ancient History as well as Band 5’s in Advanced English, Advanced Mathematics, Chemistry, and Business Studies.

He is currently travelling around Europe but hopes to study a Bachelor of Fine Arts at the University of Melbourne in hopes of becoming a director once he returns.

Other high achievers included Abbey Lawless, who achieved an ATAR of 88.8 with a Band 6 in Biology and Band 5’s in Advanced Mathematics, Advanced English, Earth and Environmental Science as well as Business Studies.

From Year 11, Madeline Fraser received a Band 6 in Standard Maths and two Band 5’s in Biology and Legal Studies while Harvey Odgers scoring a Band 6 in PDHPE and a Band 5 in both Biology and Standard English.

Dean Chappell also received a Band 6 in Industrial Technology and a Band 5 in PDHPE.

NHS Principal, Tania Madison, conveyed her pride in all the students who participated in this year’s HSC exams.

“Narrandera High School is very proud of the achievements of all students who sat the HSC in 2023,” she said.

“For some students, the completion of their HSC is an achievement, and all students have shown great academic resilience to get to this point. Congratulations to our high achievers for your dedication to your education and your perseverance.

“As a school community, we wish the students that have completed their HSC all the best in their future endeavours. Thank you to the staff and the families for all the support they give the students every day to support and guide these talented young adults.”

A total of 38 students graduated Year 12 this year while 68 students were able to enrol in HSC courses with the compressed curriculum model.
