Wallaroo Marina challenge

Recent stories

It was a picture-perfect day for the Copper Coast Battle Dragons’ annual dragon boat racing Wallaroo Marina Challenge on Saturday, November 18.

There were 11 clubs participating in this year’s event, including clubs from as far as Mannum and Adelaide, in nine different categories; the challenge day is a favourite for many clubs.

Racing was over 200m, with a 1km turn race as well.

Copper Coast Battle Dragons entered the Women’s 10 event, which they won, with a total time of 03:32.66.

We lack men so were unable to enter the open or mixed events.

In addition to racing, we had club members help with some of the jobs involved in running an event like this.

Mannum Dragons welcomed Den Haydon into their boat as they had registered as a composite boat.

The event is not possible without the planning and the kind gift of private landowners allowing land and pontoons to be used.

A huge thank you to all the volunteers and organisers for your long hours and dedication to make this event possible.

Catering was provided by local businesses and organisations.

Dragon boat racing is a fun, non-impact exercise for all ages which increases cardiovascular fitness, core and overall fitness and you can have fun doing it with our welcoming team.

If you would like to join us under the Dragonpass, where you get one month of free paddling, contact our Facebook page, Copper Coast Battle Dragons Dragon Boat Club, and register or contact president Judy Haydon for more details on 0428 271 856.
