The Victorian Goldfields World Heritage new identity revealed

Central Victorian Goldfields World Heritage Bid, Media Release, 28 November 2023

We are excited to announce that the Indigo Shire and Baw Baw Shire Councils are joining the Goldfields World Heritage Bid, taking the local government partnership from 13 to 15. Following the advice of World Heritage experts, the investigation area now encompasses not just Central Victoria but areas further afield, which now embraces the more ambitious title of the Victorian Goldfields World Heritage Bid.

Victoria’s goldrushes of the mid-19th century are only paralleled by California’s goldrushes, but investigations are showing that Victoria has the most extensive and intact evidence from this time left in the world.

The design of the logo incorporates Wadawurrung artist, Deanne Gilson’s original artwork Murnong Kimbarne Yanabil (Welcome, visitors, to our Yam Daisy Goldfields). The Wadawurrung peoples once harvested the plentiful murnong daisy tubers as their main food source, and it has been referred to as Central Victoria’s gold.
