Excitement grows for Murtoa’s Big Weekend

Murtoa’s Big Weekend will bring the region new and exciting elements in the 3-day event during October 6 to 8, 2023.

A stunning line-up will offer the local community and visitors to Murtoa an opportunity to come together and enjoy a large variety of features to suit every age. 

Exciting elements include a free admission to Donald Mineral Sands Lake Cinema & Music Experience on the evening of Friday, October 6, at Lake Marma. The night will feature live music and an outdoor cinema at the shore of Lake Marma, with food and beverage options available. The night will also provide cinema goers with an incredible experience of GrainCorp Murtoa Sound & Light Show. This is a unique opportunity to experience Lake Marma’s beauty as never before… for one night only.

Shuttle Ride

The Horsham community has an incredible opportunity to experience a Horsham-Murtoa shuttle ride aboard a Seymour Railway Heritage train carriage. Numerous train shuttles have been organised to transport passengers in style to attend Murtoa’s Big Weekend’s Friday night and Saturday events. Enjoy an old-fashioned night of fun at The Speakeasy Cabaret inside the beautiful Murtoa Mechanics Hall on Saturday, October 7. The dress code is ‘Mobsters and Molls’ with live music and entertainment. 

Stick Shed

The Stick Shed welcomes all to admire an art exhibition by past local and accomplished artist Julie Kent. The Stick Shed also offers Saturday tours by past employees, presenting an insight into the working days of the Shed.

The Dunmunkle Sumpoilers Rally will fire up impressive historic single cylinder Richard Hornsby Engines on Saturday and Sunday, October 7 and 8. 

These massive engines, still on their original 1911 Wimmera Inland Freezing Works foundation, are a sight to see as they slowly fire up and begin rotating their huge flywheels at a breathtaking 300rpm. 

A great family event with wonderful sights and sounds of the past.

The Murtoa Historical Precinct (Water Tower Museum, Concordia Cottage, Bell Tower and Railway Station) invite all to explore in wonder, with an opportunity to view the nearby remarkable Murtoa Silo Art, digitally lit at night.
