Classic EV goes on show

Nearly 100 classic vehicles lined Strickland Street last weekend for Denmark’s annual classic car show.

The event, now run for the third time, again drew a large crowd of car enthusiasts.

Great Southern Classic Car Club chair Clem Williams said even though car entries were slightly down from previous years he was pleased the event was gaining a following among locals and visitors.

The rising cost of living and cost of petrol had had an impact on the number of cars entered this year.

“But we feel confident that numbers will bounce back next year,” he said.

This year’s event coincided with the celebration of several automotive milestones including the 60th Anniversary of the EH Holden.

Several EH Holdens were on display as were other Holden models.

A surprise for many visitors to the show was the sight of an electric car dating back to 1917.

Owned by Albany resident Bill Dixon and one of only two in WA, the lovingly restored 1917 Rauch & Lang vehicle featured seven batteries in the boot and seven under the bonnet.

Bill’s car also won the People’s Choice Award and Tony Dawson’s Suzuki 750 GT was voted the favourite in the motorcycle category.

Several car clubs were also represented on the day including the Hillman Hunter Club, the Jaguar Club and a large group of repeat visitors from the Chevy Car Club.
