The Hon. Simone McGurk, Minister for Water (SA), Media Release, 7 July 2023

A major mains replacement project on South Western Highway is the first part of a $9.6 million State Government investment over 10 years to improve water supply reliability in the Bunbury region.

Aqwest, Bunbury’s water supplier, recently completed the $800,000 water network upgrade project, replacing 2km of mains from Halifax Drive to Centenary Road.

The existing 100mm pipes were replaced with 200mm pipes and capacity was improved which will increase water supply and pressure to the Bunbury Airport to boost the firefighting capacity, Bunbury Regional Prison and meet future development needs.

Local workers were used to complete the project and undertake traffic management, supporting local jobs.

The works, taking place from 2022 – 2032, will ease pressure on existing water infrastructure, reduce potential leakage and conserve precious water resources.

“The State Government is committed to regional water security and ensuring we continue to supply the region with reliable water infrastructure into the future.
