The Milang Horse Trials in South Australia provided competitors with a great weekend, even though the weather gods threw everything at them.

Questions to the committee about whether the event would go ahead were numerous, but the district’s sandy soil and the beautifully built cross country fences meant it went ahead safely.

It was only the second event run at the venue, with the first held last November.

“It was a great event, with everyone chipping in to help when the wind blew over show jumps and it rained on the Sunday,” organiser Ashley Copping said.

Competitors also joined in for a barbeque to raise funds to help the EvA 65JNR winner Ella Rose Evans and her team get to the national interschools championships at Werribee Park in October.

Ella Rose, 13, and her pony Little Black Suzi, also won the People On Ponies award for her section. The senior EA 65cm was won by Rebecca Fidge riding Jag Fonzarelli.

Horse trial classes were run from EA 95, where the winner in the senior section was Jayden Coates and Deltoi rising from fourth after dressage.

Lucy Schocroft and Highfield Luda K1 did the same in the junior section.

The EA 80cm senior section went to Courtney Munro and Riverbank Whiskey and the junior to Amelie Morelli riding Carpatair.

There were combined training classes held for the higher levels, with Connie Miller’s Delicato, Jasmine Fordham’s Burnbank Battalion and Elena Penney’s La Muso taking home sashes.
