Demonstrating the Government’s commitment to regional South Australia, this is the fourth in a series of Country Cabinets – which has already taken the Premier and Ministers to Port Pirie & Port Augusta, Mount Gambier and Yorke Peninsula.

The government is investing millions of dollars into the region, including $10 million to improve essential health services on Kangaroo Island, and bringing back birthing services to the island.

Announced as part of last week’s Budget, the government is investing in $6.2 million for road improvements on Kangaroo Island Upgrades worth $37 million are proceeding to port infrastructure at Cape Jervis and Penneshaw.

Islanders are also now able to receive a 50 per cent reduction in regular vehicle registration fees for and a 40 per cent reduction in larger vehicle registration fees, after the Malinauskas Government brought back vehicle registration concession.

The concession had been cut by the former Liberal Government, which prompted outcry from locals with local Member of Parliament Leon Bignell collecting petition signatures from more than half the island.

Quotes attributable to Peter Malinauskas

Kangaroo Island is one of my absolute favourite places to visit and it is bouncing back after a hard few years – harder than most.

Through the bushfires and the pandemic, the Island’s community is stronger than ever and we want to hear direct from locals about what our Government can do to make their region even better.

Quotes attributable to Leon Bignell

Kangaroo Island is one of the best places on earth and I am looking forward to welcoming my good friend Peter and the entire cabinet to town.

Our community is different to any other part of the state because locals rely on ferries and planes to get on and off island for everything from specialist medical appointments, sporting commitments and meetings.

That brings with it many challenges and cabinet members and senior public servants will experience that firsthand as ferry services are likely to be disrupted again in the next few days because of forecast high winds.

That is a frequent problem for business owners and people trying to get things done.
