Inland Rail Review outcomes for Gowrie to Kagaru projects: ARTC

Recent stories

Australian Rail Track Corporation (ARTC), Media Release, 15 May 2023

In line with the Government’s response to the independent Inland Rail review, ARTC is now taking a staged approach to deliver Inland Rail.

The section of Inland Rail between Beveridge in Victoria and Parkes in New South Wales (NSW) has been prioritised for completion by 2027. Works to complete the Narrabri to North Star Phase 1 project in NSW will continue.

Future decisions by the Australian Government on the delivery of Inland Rail sections north of Narromine in NSW will be contingent on gaining the required primary approvals and the Government having greater certainty as to the cost and delivery of Inland Rail.

Gowrie to Calvert projects

For the Gowrie to Helidon and Helidon to Calvert projects, work to secure the required state and Federal approvals will continue, through the collection of information needed to help inform the project’s Environmental Impact Statements.

The Australian Government has announced that the Inland Rail Service Offering of double-stacked trains will operate between the intermodal terminal at Beveridge in Victoria and a proposed terminal at Ebenezer in Queensland, with a single-stacked connection to be built between Ebenezer and Kagaru.

As such, the scope of the Inland Rail project now finishes at Kagaru.

Calvert to Kagaru project

The Calvert to Kagaru project, which connects to Ebenezer, will progress with a revised scope that we are in the process of determining with the Government.

The Australian Government has agreed in principle that a terminal should be developed at Ebenezer to support Inland Rail operations, subject to its consideration of the outcome of the Brisbane Inland Rail Intermodal Terminal Business Case.

We will keep you updated throughout this process and share the revised project scope once it is determined.

Kagaru to Acacia Ridge and Bromelton project

The scope of the Inland Rail project now finishes at Kagaru.

All work on the Kagaru to Bromelton and Acacia Ridge section of Inland Rail (including Community Consultative Committee activities) will cease at this time.

We want to thank the Kagaru to Acacia Ridge and Bromelton project community for their patience in engaging with us over the years, providing input, submissions and attendance at community events.
