Recent stories

The Hon. Nick Champion, Minister for Trade and Investment (SA), Media Release, 15 May 2023

A group of the United Kingdom’s most influential business figures were presented insights into South Australia’s growing global investment opportunities at a premier industry event in London recently.

Trade and Investment Minister Nick Champion gave the keynote address at the ‘South Australian Club International’ event to an audience comprising UK-based members who are leaders in their chosen fields.

Defence giant Babcock – specialising in complex assets and infrastructure – and international financial services organisation HSBC are among the host of companies attending – and recognise the State as priority trade destination.

The event highlighted the State’s economic priorities to some of the UK’s most influential business figures, focusing on key initiatives such as renewable energy, food and wine, digital skills, space and defence.

The Government’s commitment to hydrogen – and the significant investment opportunities coming out of the $593 million Hydrogen Jobs Plan – were central to discussions, along with economic and skills benefits set to flow from the historic AUKUS submarine program.

Launched in 2011, the SA Club comprises South Australian ambassadors to promote the State’s world-class products and services, helping local companies break into the UK market while fostering new connections to a global audience.

The London chapter of the SA Club now has more than 150 members from a diverse mix of business, politics, academia, media and the arts. The Club is supported by the Malinauskas Labor Government’s London Trade and Investment office, headed by the Office of the Agent-General.
